Another Girona Moment...

Today after a couple of rainy days, a bit of cerulean sky was peeking through the eastern clouds. We decided to pay a visit to the Worthington glacier about 40 miles outside Valdez. To reach this area, you need to drive out of the Valdez bay and get to the other side of a mountain range via the Thompson Pass. We parked, hiked to the edge of the glacier and spend the morning contemplating the majestic field of ice slowly melting into a braided river and sloping moraines.

On the way back to Valdez, while about to pass the highest point in the Thompson Pass, I noticed an unmarked dirt road, and like a magnet, it pulled my driving onto it. Farther up the road narrowed, so we parked and continued on foot and packs on our backs. We reached a high point along a ridge, where we had a 360 clear view of one of the most majestic scenes that I have ever seen. For a while, we just stood taking it all in – Crisp blue skies white clouds rolling over waves of snowed peaks as far as the eye could see.



Once we stepped off of the trail, to reach even higher points of view, we noticed that we felt like we were walking on clouds.We were walking on a think carpet of moss and a rich variety of tiny plants. Berries, flowers, lichen...



We climbed until we reached some high rock formations and seek shelter there form the icy wind coming down the surrounding peaks.There we found another of those moments.



A moment that makes you feel that all the events and decisions in recent memory, have lead to it. It is beautiful, complete, and you just don't want the moment to end.

We wanted that afternoon to stretch forever. We reclined against the thick mattress of life underneath and rested while engulfed on the circling blue sky and fresh mountain air.
