Catching up with the Silver Whale...

In spite my best intentions to keep this blog up to date, the postings keep falling behind. The last post was from Arkansas, and since then, we have been in Oklahoma, Missouri, and today we crossed the line into Illinois!

So, I decided to do a "dump post", a quick log style catch-up.

Today we drove from Maumelle park to Petit Jean State Park. It has a couple of beautiful natural features. Cedar Falls, and a natural bridge. We hiked to the Natural Bridge.

Today we hiked to the Cedar Falls during the morning. We were expecting cloudy weather, but all morning was sunny, so it turned out to be just bad light for this location. This location is better during afternoon light.

After lunch we hiked the Cedar Creek trail which turned out to have beautiful little falls. Late afternoon we got a hail storm.

Today we drove to Mount Nebo state park. The day was overcast and cold. We hiked a couple of trails but the day and light was just not good.

In the afternoon, the sky cleared and I went to the bridge trail and took some photos. After that, I went to a sunset point and took some more.

Today we took photos of the Bear Cave, then we visited the Car Museum. We had lunch at the trailer and in the afternoon, we hiked down Cedar Falls to attempt better photos.

Today we drove from Petit Jean State Park to Natural Falls State Park in Oklahoma. This park is near the borderline between states. It is a nice little park with a surprisingly beautiful waterfall as the main attraction.

Today we took it really easy. I caught up on photo development and Vicky went to the near by town to cut her hair. We spent some time trip planning and we decided that we will skip Florida and the eastern side of the states and head for Alaska instead. The East is so....domesticated and cluttered. I yearn for the open spaces that greeted us back in West Texas. I guess I am getting Eastern claustrophobia.

Next installment...Oklahoma and Missouri catch up.

Nice shots. That Petit Jean waterfall looks gorgeous! I'll have to add that to my list of places to visit.
