The last 3 days in Austin were a blur. As our departure date approached, work at the house piled on, dates with friends to say a final good bye lined up, and the logistics of transfering to life aboard the “Silver Whale” became like a chess game.
Vicky's parents came to help us, and I think that without their help, we could not have made it out of Austin in a sane mental state. Thanks Ken & Mary.
Rolling out of Austin, after about four months of planning felt like an accomplishment. This was a seriously sizable undertaking. Just like the software projects that I have been involved in over the last ten years, this took: planning, execution, and testing. All under a tight schedule.

To all our friends and family, thanks for a wonderful farewell. We will come by at some point and visit.

Good luck guys, so good to see you off in a very Austin way! Can't wait to see some of the postings...I know it can be hard when you're just starting, but some of my earliest posts are my favorite. Even if it is two sentences and a picture, it really helps to preserve what it was like when you started...don't wait until you can have a perfect post, just do it!
Matt
Thanks for the tip Matt. I think you are right!
I already waited 2,3 days w/o updating the blog, and the anecdote and details get piled in my head...they get lost in the excitement of the next day. I am starting a ol'fashioned field book to keep notes for the blog.
So are you officially "on the road"?! Congrats! Do let us know where you are and if you come up the Washington, DC way, drop us a line. We'd love to see Shackleton/Silver Whale again!

Hi Bobby,
Yep, officially on the road. DC/Maryland is on our schedule, so we will let you know when we are in the area.
I have been reading your blog and am excited for your adventure to begin! Good luck!!!
